Tattoo Aftercare
The aftercare of your tattoo will greatly determine the way your tattoo will look once it has fully healed.
Remove your bandage after one hour and wash your tattoo gently with lukewarm water and Dial Antibacterial soap.
Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub back and forth.
Once dry, apply a very thin layer of A&D ointment or Aquaphor. There should be no buildup of ointment on your tattoo.
Repeat 2-3 times daily while your tattoo heals.
Do not pick scabs or flaking skin while your tattoo heals.
Wear loose clothing over your tattoo while it heals to avoid rubbing on the area.
Do not use fragranced body wash, lotions, or shampoos on the area of your tattoo.
Do not swim or go in a hot tub for at least 2 weeks.
Do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight. Once healed, protect your tattoo with an SPF sunscreen.
Derm Shield Aftercare
Derm Shield is a latex-free, waterproof, breathable tattoo bandage. It eliminates scabbing and reduces the risk of scarring, while preventing exposure to bacteria, dirt, and abrasion.
If you and your artist have chosen to use Derm Shield, leave it in place for up to three days after your tattoo. It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage.
Remove your bandage in the shower under lukewarm water by gently peeling the Derm Shield, pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Do not pull the bandage upwards.
Redness or itchiness may occur in the area where the Derm Shield has been placed after removal, but is normal.
After removing your Derm Shield, wash the area with Gold Dial Antibacterial soap and use unscented lotion.
Do not swim or go in a hot tub for at least two weeks.
Do not expose your tattoo to direct sunlight. Once healed, protect your tattoo with an SPF sunscreen.
